Grand
Bend and Area
Many parachuting operations are located in
the proverbial "middle of nowhere". Not Grand Bend! Among the area's many
attractions is its famous beach,
visited in the summer by thousands of tourists from all over southern Ontario
and southeastern Michigan. We're
in a unique position to capture on film the beauty of the area as we're
always flying over, often with cameras to film our skydivers. This picture
shows the main beach, the marina and most of the village. Just out of the
frame at the top is the Pinery Park, a large Carolinian forest with nature
trails, more beach and plenty of campsites. If you look very closely you
might see a parachute heading for the beach! We sometimes organize jumps
onto the beach (for the most experienced jumpers).
Here's a photo taken just after a competitor
landed
during
the National championships in 1990. Grand Bend's beach has been the site
of other sporting events such as Beach Volleyball in the 2001 Canada Summer
Games. By the way, in case you're concerned about it, there is NO POSSIBILITY
of anyone accidentally ending up in Lake Huron when jumping at the GBSPC!
Our drop zone is located a comfortable distance inland. You'll have a great
view of the Lake but no need to worry about it.
